Our clients typically feel relief after the first session and experience significant results by the third. Eventually, they require only periodic sessions in order to maintain relief.  In cases where relief does not require maintenance, many of our clients still return to enhance their relaxation and maintain physical and emotional well being.

For those experiencing acute or chronic pain, massage therapy can be a highly effective part of pain management and relief. Massage therapy is a natural way to help our bodies heal. Many rely primarily on regular massage therapy to keep discomfort at bay.  Some are able to eliminate or reduce the dosage of powerful pain medications by incorporating regular massage therapy into their treatment plans.

Body Wellness offers the following modalities of massage for pain relief. Your therapist will likely use a combination of modalities to customize your session to address individual pain issues.

​Medical Massage 

A medical massage is the use of a wide variety of the modalities or procedures to address and improve conditions that have been diagnosed by a physician. Call our office to learn more about how medical massage may be incorporated into your treatment program.​ 

Trigger Point Massage 

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may trigger pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury, and because the aches are associated with moving parts, the pain is commonly mistaken for arthritis. Trigger point work is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.  The result of trigger point massage is the elimination of toxins in the muscles and the release of energizing endorphins. A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment.
 

Deep Tissue Massage 

This modality is a form of intense massage that aims to release myofascial (connective tissue) restrictions in the body and to break up any restrictive scar tissue. Deep Tissue Massage is used to target knots and has also been known to help relieve chronic tension, increase the body's range of motion and improve posture. The more intense movements and techniques such as deep pressure may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness that lasts a couple of days before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief. Chronic stress, tension and pain don’t have to be a part of your daily life.

Sports Massage  

Not just for the athlete! If you are a yard warrior, have a labor intense job or are just physically active, this massage is for you. This is atherapeautic massage incorporates stretching and compression techniques. Rehabilitates soft tissue dysfunction that can result from physcial labor, lifting weights or sports related injuries. Promotes flexibility, reduces swelling, relieves muscle tension and alleviates muscle fatigue.  For the athlete, sports massage can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed massage promotes flexibility, removes fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries, to compete at their absolute best.

 
 

Cupping & VacuTherapies

Our therapists at Body Wellness have advanced training in Cupping & VacuTherapies™ and can incorporate this therapeutic treatment into your massage session at no extra cost.  

What is Cupping?
A therapy that uses glass or plastic to create suction on the body surface. The cups are moved over of the skin using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup, and are parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. The suction can reach deep into the soft tissue or can work superficially to pull inflammation and toxins toward the surface so that the skin and lymphatic system can readily eliminate them. Scar tissues often release quickly, despite the age of the injury or keloid tendencies.


One of the most amazing aspects of this technique is the "separation" that the vacuum produces in tissue layers. This enables water absorption and renewed blood flow to undernourished and dehydrated tissue, which is invaluable in pre- and post-surgery treatments. It is becoming evident that separation of fused, congested soft tissue and increase in tissue function can be a catalyst for change in many current health conditions.

Cupping Therapies can comfortably:

  • Decrease or relieve pain and inflammation from injury or chronic conditions.

  • Relieve deep muscular issues and reduces muscle spasms.

  • Release and soften scar tissue and loosen post-surgery adhesions.

  • Lift and stretch soft tissue to separate fascia and restrictions.

  • Reduce “Solid Bloat”

VacuTherapies is a term for the use of suction and vacuum pressure to enhance the effect of massage cups. A surprisingly relaxing treatment, VacuTherapies™ can provide many therapeutic benefits and is used to:

  • soften tight muscles and tone attachments

  • loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue

  • bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues

  • move deep inflammation to the skin surface for release

  • drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways

 

Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Skin Brushing

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle massage technique used to clear out a sluggish or blocked lymphatic system, which can be caused by poor diet, pharmaceuticals, having the lymph vessels or nodes damaged or removed during surgery or by sustaining an injury. 

 

Following any surgical procedure where an incision took place, lymph will rush to the area to clean and heal the wound.  However, any damage to the capillaries and vessels won’t allow for proper drainage, thus creating uncomfortable swelling.  It is crucial at this point to receive MLD before the lymph becomes fibrotic and creates excessive scar tissue. 

 

In addition to treating swelling and edema, MLD is effective at improving chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue and a host of other autoimmune disorders. 

*Please note: MLD is scheduled for an hour to accommodate for the client's height and any compression garments that need removal/replacement. The length of the technique itself generally ranges from 40 to 60 min, depending on the client.

 

The amount per MLD session is $80.

Skin Brushing has been used for centuries to maintain skin health by clearing pores, reducing cellulite, stimulating circulation and simply removing dead skin through exfoliation.  However, the benefits of dry brushing are more than skin-deep!  Dry brushing circulates lymphatic fluids, which allows your body to eliminate toxins.  Dry Brushing Treatments can be especially detoxifying when used in combination with the Infrared Sauna!

We offer a 60-minute Skin Brushing Session + 35-minute Sauna Session for $99. The brushes used during your session are yours to keep, and if you bring the brushes back for your next Skin Brushing Session, you'll get $10 off!

Swedish Massage

Designed specifically to relax the muscles.  All strokes are toward your heart to aid blood and lymphatic flow. Swedish massage is especially helpful in promoting relaxation, relief from tension, soothe sore muscles and improve circulation.  You’ll feel physically and emotionally revitalized after experiencing the healing effects of this very relaxing and soothing treatment.  A variety or therapeutic bodywork and massage techniques will be used to address your specific needs.

Prenatal and Postnatal Massage 

Prenatal massage focuses on easing changes a mother experiences during her pregnancy journey. Prior to birth, certified massage therapists focus on the unique challenges of each trimester. Benefits of prenatal massage include alleviation of morning sickness, cramps, back pain, and physical tension. This modality also provides an opportunity for the mother to receive some much needed relaxation time.

 

Postnatal massage in the weeks following delivery can help restore muscle tone in the abdomen and reposition the pelvis to help the body return to its pre-birth condition, while reducing water retention and relieving mental and physical fatigue.

Infant Massage

We also offer infant massage classes to promote bonding between parent and child, as well as alleviate colic and fussiness.  

 

Please note there is a $10 add on charge for prenatal massages. Prenatal massage therapy can only be performed after the completion of the first trimester.
